Есть у меня там подруга, англичанка, которая собирает старинные книги.
И, когда я там была лет 10 назад, наткнулась на одну любопытную книгу. Это книга записей местного суда (а живет подруга в Ашфорде, Кент) 18 века. Сделанных вручную, естественно!!!!
То есть все записи в ней 1700х годов. Мне так понравились эти шедевры, что я попросила подругу скопировать одну (она просто переписала мне от руки).
Вот, наконец-то я это дело перепечатала на комп) Любуйтесь) А имена-то, имена!!! А расстояния!!! A gun shot away!)))

Inditment: That on the 2nd June 1765 T. C., E.M. and J. S. did steal 3 sheep being the property of their master Lord Alan Wyndham Green at Ashford in the County of Kent.
“The three accused plead not guilty to the charge of the theft of three sheep and if convicted will be transported to the Colonies (Jamaica West Indies) and forced to work on the sugar plantations”.
Evidence: That on the night of 2nd June 1765 the three accused were seen by their Master’s Bailiff with lamps hearding the three sheep into an enclosure whereupon they placed them into a hand cart and were followed to a barn a gun shot away. The Bailiff then went to alert a Constable to arrest the 3 men. When the Constable and Sheriff arrived back at the barn there were no sheep and no sign of the 3 accused but 3 fleeces were found with fresh blood.
The Constable and Bailiff then attended at the homes of the 3 accused. The wife of Thomas Clutterback said that her husband had been at home all night and was asleep but when they saw Thomas Clutterback he was in an anxious state and denied he had been out and that he had been involved in the theft of his master’s sheep. The Constable arrested T. C. on suspicion of theft.
When they called at the home of Ewart MacSporron his wife said he had not been home, it was midnight. The Bailiff then went to the Local Public House, The Black Ox, where MacSporron and Jeremy Scroggins were found. Both men were very drunk and unable to stand. They had been drinking porter. The Constable then arrested them, they maintained they had been drinking at the Public House since 8 pm. MacSporron had blood stains on his boots and trousers. He said he had killed one of the chickens earlier in the evening. The Constable then ..... a coach to take the 3 men to the town jail. All three men protested their innocence.
The following day they were brought before the Magistrates for the Town of Ashford. All three pleaded not guilty and elected trial in view of the severity of the potential sentence.

Jury:
Found guilty. They will then be transferred to jail and then await a ship to take them to Colonies for 11 years.

The three men then went off in the company of the Constable, they were hand-cuffed and placed in the Town jail where they remained until the 11th September. Their wives brought them food every day.

Ужас.
Я несколько лет наблюдала Германию изнутри - и поняла, люди там не более сознательные, чем в России, например. Просто там наказание неотвратимо. Даже в мелочах. На дорогах все ведут себя нормально, потому что штрафы огромные)
